Attero's Venlo site comprises a regional road transfer station, a compost plant and an anaerobic digestion plant. Collection vehicles bring domestic waste to this site from all over the region. Residual waste is transferred here to larger trucks and transported to Attero's waste-to-energy plants for further processing. Biowaste is first digested and then composted at this site. Through this pre-digestion, we maximise the energetic value of the waste material. This is because the gas released in the digestion process is converted into green electricity. After digestion, the material is further processed in the tunnel composting plant. In these long, narrow concrete bins, the biowaste is aerated and moistened in a controlled manner over several days. The process ultimately produces high-quality compost.
