Introduction

Attero is turning biogenic waste into a powerful carbon removal solution. Using our innovative bio-energy with carbon capture and storage (BECCS) technology, we plan to deliver high-quality carbon-dioxide removal credits (CORCs) backed by permanent, certified CO2 removal lasting over 1,000 years. This project is central to our mission of helping businesses achieve net-zero targets while making a tangible contribution to global climate goals, including the Paris Agreement and the EU’s Fit for 55 initiative.

The project is currently in development and first CORC's are expected to be delivered Q1 2029.

How the process works

  • Capture: CO2 emissions from Attero's waste-to-energy facilities in Moerdijk via the chimney are prevented by capturing CO2
  • Transport: liquefied CO2 is transported by ship from Moerdijk to the – yet to be built - CO2next terminal at the Maasvlakte in Rotterdam
  • Storage: the CO2 is transported via pipeline to depleted gas fields beneath the North Sea from the Aramis project (including Total Energies and Shell), where it is securely and permanently stored
  • Credit creation: For every tonne of CO2 stored, a certified carbon-dioxide removal credit (CORC) is issued. These CORCs are available for purchase as high-quality carbon credits

Bio-energy with carbon capture and storage (BECCS) captures CO2 from biogenic waste and permanently stores it underground in depleted gas fields.

BECCS actively removes CO2 from the atmosphere, a vital step for achieving net-zero emissions and limiting global warming to 1.5°C.

Attero leverages sustainably sourced biogenic waste, integrates robust certification standards like Puro.earth, and ensures transparency and durability through certified storage.

Our carbon credits are verified by Puro.earth which includes the CRCF framework.

Our credits are ideal for businesses addressing Scope 1, 2, or 3 emissions, particularly those in hard-to-abate sectors.

Pre-purchasing offers cost certainty and early access to premium credits. Furthermore, it supports the development of our innovative carbon removal solution.

The liquefied CO2 is shipped to the CO2next terminal at the Maasvlakte in Rotterdam and transported via pipeline to depleted gas fields beneath the North Sea for permanent storage.

It adds a carbon-negative dimension to Attero’s waste-to-energy infrastructure, reinforcing our role as a leader in sustainable innovation.

The Attrero CORCs will be paid upon delivery. This is expected to be in 2030.
